Our grandson and his scout troop sent a package to a relative serving in Iraq, and received this fantastic reply.

It doesn't matter how we feel about the war, we have to give our soldiers our highest of praise.  Maybe, of the people of Iraq may someday feel the same pride for their soldiers and may have a better life because of ours.

Dad,

In our care package to David Jones, we sent some small folded flags (I found
some flag fabric at Walmart - cut the flags out, and we folded them).  David
has a co worker that sent one of the flags out on patrol with a different
group, and we received an email from him and learned about his patrol.

I thought that you would like to hear what he did and see the pictures that
he took.  It is very telling, and we are sure blessed to be born and living
in the US.

Lots of Love,
Amy

Lucas,

Thank you for sending the small folded American flags.  About two hours
ago I returned from a combat patrol during which I carried the flags I
my cargo pocket the entire time.  We did a presence patrol around the
airport then went to a couple of villages where we knocked on a couple
of doors to see who lived in the houses.  At one house we found an
unusually large amount of wire, which could be used to make explosives.
We confiscated the wire.  The home owner explained they use the wire to
repair the wiring in the house, which is probably true.  In Iraq, when a
family moves out of a house, the take EVERYTHING, including the wiring
and light fixtures.  So, we will probably return some of the wire to the
family in the next few days.  This action will also demonstrate we are
strong, and yet flexible, which is important to this culture.  At the
other home we met a very nice and very poor family.  Be thankful for
where you live and what you have.  Our country stands heads and
shoulders above all others, in our standard of living, our values and
our freedom.  We are the standard for the world to follow, we lead the
way!  May you and your troop serve our country in your everyday lives by
being good sons, brothers, friends and students.  Right now, that is
your role in our great Republic.

Enclosed is a pic of our Soldiers searching the back of the house where
they found the wire (and a very large and alive RAT!), and a pic of the
kitchen of the other home.

Victory,
