John Edwards
John 'suspended' his campaign for President, but he didn't forget those who supported him. I received the following letter and every statement it contains makes me proud to have supported him. I especially appreciated that it was not just from him - see the signatures. This man has character!
On January 9th 2008, John visited and spoke at Clemson University and we were there to participate.
Click on the "Slideshow" link below to see some beautiful photos. One photo opportunity I missed happened after he came past Bev and I shaking hands. Well, two photos. First, was of him with Bev, but then after he went past both of us, Bev saw a black woman trying to get through and asked her if she wanted to shake his hand and the woman said yes, but.... I yelled "John, come back!" He turned to see us moving her forward and he didn't just come back, he gave her a heartfelt hug. The woman was speechless! A reporter took her aside and was interviewing her as we left. Well, no photo of that, but it's burned in my mind! (and scroll down to see the photo at the bottom of this page!)
See John at Clemson in video:
(each file is about 10 meg or less - give it time)
BUT - in the early photos you see people greeting a man with a camouflage hat and plaid shirt with a wife with a white blouse and I noticed people talking to them. I asked someone who they were - they are John's aunt and uncle. They sat on the steps and the steps were a little moist so the man took one of the Edwards signs, and tore it in half putting one under him and one under his wife - you can see him tearing it in one photo and you can see him with half of it in a following photo. Can you imagine being him - watching his nephew there as a presidential candidate? Pretty special that in this country, a man with a common beginning and normal family may be the President!
