Book
Jan. 8, 2008: This project was deferred as I have been consumed working on 3 books for my personal lineage but when the third of those is completed in the fall of 2008, I look forward to being consumed by After the Trek! I just can't multi-task the research. But I encourage each family to keep this project in mind as I will become a pest starting after the fall of 2008!
Am I serious about these books - YES! To see what I have accomplished on my personal lines, go to Winsness Books where I provide images and text from sections of the books completed.
My interest is not financial - I have not, and will not, make a penny on any book. In fact, many have been donated to historical societies or libraries at my cost. I have no ancestors from Hendricks - the Hendricks Book is a gift to the descendants of those incredible immigrants.

We hope to have permission to include the text from this book that so personally describes the wagon train of settlers who decided to stop and make their home in the wilderness at Lake Hendricks.

This page will be used to track the progress and design of a book that is being created by descendants and friends of the earliest settlers of Hendricks. The book has articles on each early family and will detail the first generation born of those families. It will also include family tree information about each of the families. It will be a "must have" for those descending from these immigrants! We will also include any early settler - those arriving before 1900, unless the book gets too huge!
I just finished writing such a book for my Scandinavian lineage. My ancestors were not part of Hendricks, but were related to everyone who was! I had 2 lines from Norway, Winsness and Bjugstad, and one from Sweden. The book was chronologically organized starting with pre-1600 and continuing through the 3 lines by time period showing how they eventually merged to become me! I wrote the text, had it edited by a professional editor, and combined the 100 pages of my text with a "book" created by Family Tree Maker showing the various family trees, and genealogy reports that detailed lines going back, and lines coming forward in time and that book section has a table of contents, and an index that provides for each person in the section, the page numbers where the person can be found. The second section was 180 pages for a total of 280 pages printed back-to-back. The book cost $30.00 in hardback.
Roberta Trooien has volunteered to be our editor and her extensive background in English will give the book a professional touch. We solicit the input from descendants of these first and early settlers! Send your comments, scanned photos etc to Jim Winsness and between Jim and Roberta, we will add your information and will keep the latest version on the web.
I would hope that we could possibly get permission to include The Immigrants Trek and then chapters on each early family, followed again as my book did with the Family Tree Book with all the relevant trees etc.
