Original Settler Information

This project is certainly not limited to the families of the 31 original settlers from Singsaas, however, we really have to get working on many of those families. I have looked at the family tree information for those families and will summarize below what we have, and what we need!

I would appreciate any assistance in locating descendants of these families! From them, we can get the lineage going!

Bogen - Nels and Ole - I have neither ancestors or descendants for these men. I will have to search the Norewegian databases to see if I can find them there. But I need to find some American descendants!

Bjorgen - Nels - I have neither andestors or descendants for these men - HELP!

Digre - Hans has no ancestors on the file and I should be able to get them from Ingebrigt Digre's file and will get to work there. His wife Kari has lots of ancesotrs but their children never married so there are no descendants to find.

Fjeseth - Kersti - have many ancestors and descendants.

Hanson - Jens - I have no ancestors and only their children but no other descendants found - need help!

Knutson - John and wife - no ancestors and only thier children on file - need to find some American descendants and I'll have to look for ancestors in Norway!

Kosberg - Peder and wife - no ancestors and no descendants other than daughter Beret on file!

Rognes - Peder - no ancestors or descendents - have so much to do here!

Trooien - Here we have a lot of ancestors and descendants but always looking for more!

Winsness - Nels - we have a lot of ancestors and descendants here but that should be understood as it's my line! (Jim Winsness)

Recent Events

In late March I received an email from Jay Nelson: I was born and raised in Hendricks, the son of Violet Sandro Nelson, who is the daughter of Isaac Sandro and Hariet Hanson Sandro. We are all still members of Singsaas church. I currently live down in Atlanta Georgia, where I am employed as a website manager.

Well, I have volunteered to make a new HendricksMN.com website for the town. I am about 60% done and about 3 weeks away from making this live (the current version is in quite disrepair). With your permission, I would like give your town genealogy effort a significant billing on the new version of the website.

Violet Nelson took Bev and my photo and put in the paper in 2002 when we first found Hendricks and the Singsaas Church! What a neat email to hear from her son. We have communicated many times since then and maybe I'll get to see Jay in Atlanta sometime as it's only 2 hours down the interstate from where we live.

Then we received the first of several emails from Ken Kirkvold: Hi Jim: I just read your Feb. Newsletter and want to respond. My relatives come from the Hendricks area. I am new at this genealogy, but am trying to learn more every day.My Grandfather John Hanson Kirkvold, (1843-1919). Married to Ingeborg Olsdatter REFSET, Homesteaded on the south side of Lake Hendricks. His father was Hans Jonassen Kirkvold, (1821-1908),married to Dordi Pedersdatter FJETSETHAUG,(1820-1894). Ellef Wold was first married to Serina Kirkvold ( My Dads sister).I knew Justin Wold for many years.( That is a real nice picture of Justin (Jack) you have on your web site.) I do not have anything on Ingebrigt Singsaas, but I think he was my grandmothers brother? Her name was Ingeborg Ingebrigtsdt SINGSAAS. She was married to Hans Evensen Langøien. ( Ingeborg would of course be on my mothers side.) Looking forward to hearing from you. Ken Kirkvold

I had much of Ken's genealogy and am sharing that with him now. He provided photos that I added to the Kirkvold and Wold pages on the website.

And in early April I heard from Linda Schwartz with the following: Dear Jim, I don't know if we have corresponded before. Someone on our Trondelag mail list pointed out your Hendricks web site today - I had not seen it. Loved the explanation of how it all came to be. It was exciting to see the photo of Kathy McKinney and her brother - distant cousins to me although we have not yet met.
In case you haven't come across my web site, you will find some of the same families since my emigrant ancestors came from Støren but with ancestry from Soknedal, Budal, Singsås areas. Some of the related emigrant families to those in Hendricks went to Dunn County, WI which is where I grew up.

Several emails later, we find that Linda and I are 6th cousins and about the same to Ron Lunde! We have her website now shown under "Links to other great websites" on our Hendricks website! What a find - she's related to most of you!

Summer 2004 trip

Bev and Jim are planning to visit the Hendricks area during the 3rd week of August this year. We will be trying to locate some new friends in the family lines that we need to know more about and to see again the friends we have made in Hendricks during the last visits. We hope that Gail Kvernmo will be there that week as she sure is helpful in finding these people for us and we know that Irv and Lorenchia Scott plan to be there also.

So mark your calendars and let us know how to find you while we are there.

Next Wednesday and Thursday April 28 and 29, Jim will be with Ron and Carol Lunde who are staying at their son's house in Atlanta and we will go over the names and status of the many families. He has most of his information on the computer at home in SD but it will be fun to get together again.

Thanks for all your help in this great genealogy quest and I only hope we are giving some people great information about their heritage and connecting them to their relatives in Norway!
